MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Twins are looking to sweep a 3-game home set against the Detroit Tigers today. The Twins edged the Tigers 2-1 yesterday thanks to Danny Valencia's one-out single in the 10th inning. Jon Rauch pitched a perfect 10th for the win.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Twins have sent 7-foot-1 pitcher Loek Van Mil to the Los Angeles Angels to complete last week's trade for left-hander Brian Fuentes. Van Mil is a 25-year-old right-hander from the Netherlands. He was designated for assignment to make room for Fuentes.
(AP) - The Big Ten says Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State and Northwestern will make up one division when the league grows to 12 teams next year. The other division will feature Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Illinois, Purdue and Indiana.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Minnesota kicks off the football season tonight against Middle Tennessee after recent suspensions affected both teams. The Gophers won't have two key players, safety Kyle Theret and offensive tackle Dom Alford. The Blue Raiders will be without quarterback Dwight Dasher.
