WESTON, Wyo. (AP) _ Nearly 11,000 acres of federal land in Campbell County will be closed to the public while federal officials investigate what may have been an explosion in an outhouse.
The Weston Hills Recreation Area, 25 miles north of Gillette, is popular with campers, all-terrain vehicle drivers and mountain bikers.
A U.S. Forest Service crew at the site in early July found the doors and windows of the outhouse blown off, scorch marks on the wall and the seams separated in the corners of the concrete walls. They believe a small explosive device might have gone off.
The investigation into the incident is expected to take about a month.
Federal officials say the area will be closed because of health and safety risks to the public.
