SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ Severe storms that crossed South Dakota
dropped hail in many areas and packed damaging winds. No injuries
were reported.
The National Weather Service says two confirmed tornadoes
touched down near Mission, though there were no immediate reports
of damage. In nearby Bennett County, winds topping an estimated 100 mph
downed large trees and damaged a barn outside Vetal.
Southwest of Sioux Falls, trees up to 2 feet in diameter were
uprooted in Parkston, and wind gusts up to 90 mph destroyed a
40-foot-long Quonset building in Scotland. Hail the size of tennis
balls was reported in some areas, along with heavy rain that caused
street flooding and flooded basements in some communities.
In the northwest part of the state, hail the size of baseballs
damaged trees, homes and vehicles in the Lemmon area.
