Antelope season proposed in Custer State Park

Posted:
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ The state's wildlife managers want to reopen
a limited antelope hunting season in Custer State Park after a
25-year hiatus.
It proposes a nine-day season in October that would allow three
"any" antelope and 10 doe or subadult animals. Licenses would be
available to South Dakota residents only through a drawing.
The Game, Fish and Parks Department says the herd is around 367
head and it's time to control the growth so the herd doesn't
suddenly get too big. The herd has seldom exceeded 200 animals
since the last hunting season in 1984.
The GF&P Commission will finalize the hunting season at a July 1
meeting.
