Creighton woman charged with inhumane treatment of animals

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA-TV) - The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office has received a warrant for the arrest of a Creighton woman after the seizure of 75 animals at her residence on Dec. 19.

Many of the animals were in poor condition and are currently being cared for by the Humane Society of the Black Hills.

Janell Gibson, 46, has been charged with 33 counts of inhumane treatment of an animal.

The Sheriff’s Office has been in contact with Gibson who is currently out of state. She has agreed to turn herself in when she returns to South Dakota next week.

Inhumane treatment of an animal is a Class 1 Misdemeanor, resulting in one year in the county jail and $2,000 fine.
