WALL,S.D. (KOTA TV) - The “After Rally Summit” from the 2017 Sturgis Rally was a good way to debrief about how the rally went for Sturgis, but it also was an opportunity for smaller towns to learn about connecting to rally goers.
During the Sturgis Rally, the town of Wall was hoping to grab some bikers on their journey by creating an event called the “Wall Crawl”.
During the event rally goers and community members participated in a poker run, a show and shine motor show, and music played by 35th and Taylor.
Even though the turnout of Wall citizens was a success, it didn't attract as many rally goers as they hoped.
The Wall Chamber of Commerce hopes to learn more from Sturgis to see how they can attract more rally goers.
Kelsey Walter with the Wall Chamber of Commerce said, “I'm really looking forward to learning about how people market to the Sturgis rally goers. We really kind of jumped into this blind and we didn't know how to get to them. So I’m really looking forward to learning about different marketing techniques.”
Walters says for the next couple of years they are going to focus on growing the Wall Crawl with the community members, and then try reaching out to rally goers.
