Wall Elementary receives national honor

WALL, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Wall Elementary School has been chosen as a National title 1 Distinguished School. The honor comes for exceptional student performance.

Two schools are nominated each year by each state’s education agency. Schools can be nominated for one of three areas:

-Exceptional student performance for two consecutive years

-Closing the achievement gap between student groups

-Excellence in serving special populations of students

“There are great things happening at Wall Elementary,” said South Dakota Secretary of Education Dr. Melody Schopp. “You can feel such a strong sense of community here. Wall educators work hard to really get to know their kids, and those relationships help students succeed.”

Fred Assam Elementary School is South Dakota’s other National Title 1 Distinguished School. The school was chosen for its excellence in serving its English learners.
