RAPID CITY, S.D. ( KOTA TV ) Veterans day honors those who were willing to give their lives to our country and to serve our country.

This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice or truce, which ended World War I.

All military veterans are thanked for their services and honored in a variety of ways.

Support for our veterans is growing but could still see some improvement.

"I went to the parade today and it was nice, really nice." Dan Arnio, an Army veteran said, "We have to have more support, I mean, it's coming along but our VA systems are shot, people are having a hard time getting care. Maybe people are waking up, we need help, the veterans need help."

Veterans received freebies and discounts throughout the day. All three Family Thrift locations offered 11 percent discounts at check out for veterans. Family thrift usually runs a daily military discount of five percent.

Family Thrift locations also served up cake, cupcakes and ice cream for everyone.

You can bring in your old worn out or tore up flag to any Family Thrift Center, any day of the week and it will be given a proper burial by the VFW.
