Tricks and tips on booking and using Airbnb and Uber

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - With the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally fully underway, it is a sign for us that summer is winding down.

But that doesn't mean you can't squeeze in that last summer vacation. You could be heading to Denver or Minneapolis for the back to school shopping trip, or heading to Mile High Stadium or U.S. Bank Stadium to catch a preseason game.

Whether you are driving or flying you may want to take advantage of a couple of ride share services offered in those areas such as Lyft or Uber. Ride share servicing is something we do not offer in the Black Hills, but if you are interested in using these services all you have to is download the app, register an account and hail your ride via your phone.

These services do not accept cash; instead, both companies withdraw the funds directly from your bank account. To ensure safety, the app offers a GPS that tracks your location during your entire trip.

If you are out of state and you are not lodging with a family or friend, you will need somewhere to stay. The latest trend in vacation rentals is Airbnb. This online marketplace and hospitality service offers lodging that can be a private room or a full home, also allowing a stay downtown or in a trendy neighborhood without the 4-star hotel price.

“There is something for every price point,” said 605 Magazine Publisher Alana Snyder. “Make sure to go through all of the steps in Airbnb, verify your account, and make sure they are verified. Make sure you are only talking through Airbnb only and only doing payments through Airbnb.”
