The Guardian Tree will create holiday cheer for area foster care children

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) in Rapid City has been providing a holiday tradition for years in support of children in foster care.

The Guardian Tree is set to allow the community an opportunity to show support for these children.

According to S.D. DSS, In Pennington County, there are approximately 360 children in foster care, and many of these children will not be able to spend the holidays with their own families. The Guardian Tree is an opportunity for the community to spread cheer by donating a desired gift for them. Donors get an information sheet that details their interests, age, gender, shoe and shirt sizes as well as a wish list...and every year the community steps up. \

"We live in an amazing community and they are so wonderful in their support with children in foster care," said Andi Heremeyer of S.D. DSS. "The gifts really do bring joy to the children and it's great to see them get excited about somebody in the community giving something special, just something they wanted on their wish list."

Gift tags can be taken from the Guardian Tree at S.D. DSS location at 501 N. Campbell St., these tags have gift ideas for the children. If you don't have time to do some shopping, you can make a monetary donation and they will provide a shopper to shop for you. You can also drop off toys or gifts there.
