The American Legion Department of South Dakota holding drive for veterans

RAPID CITY, S.D (KOTA TV) - The American Legion Department of South Dakota is trying to help homeless veterans get back on their feet.

From now until January 31st, the Legion and their partners will be collecting items for their buddy baskets. These are household items like soap, detergent, paper towels, and toilet paper.

The drive takes place across the state, but in Rapid City, items can be dropped off at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

"We want to set them up in an apartment, help them get jobs, and then when they move in, we give them vouchers for our thirft store," said Lysa Allison, Executive Director for Cornerstone. "But it's nice to have the incidentals of dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels, cleaning products, things like that."

People can donate a full buddy basket or donate individual items.
