Taskforce 1 trains for real life emergencies

RAPID CITY, S.D. - South Dakota Taskforce 1 met in Rapid City this week. Members of the Aberdeen, Watertown, Sioux Falls and Rapid City Fire Departments make up the team. With members coming from different parts of the state, the training is critical to their performance during an actual emergency.

“The incidents that they’re going to respond to are what we call high risk, low frequency events,” said Lt. Jim Bussell from the Rapid City Fire Department. “They’re events that don’t happen very often, but they pose a high deal of risk to the public and to the responders as well.”

Taskforce 1 responds to chemical, biological and explosive threats in addition to performing rescues.
