SUMMERSET, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Construction on the new Stagebarn Middle School in Summerset is right on schedule to be completed by mid June.
The 16.5 million dollar project will have two wings, one for fith through sixth grade and the other for seventh and eighth. The school can hold up to 600 students.
As of right now the construction crew is working on tiling and other indoor projects.
The interim superintendent for Meade County School District, says rapid growth in the Piedmont area was behind the decision to build the new school.
"I think it will be an opportunity for those students possibly, to not ride the bus as much. I mean, bussing is always a concern. And so I think it's more of a neighborhood school for down there for that Piedmont Summerset area within our school district. I think that will help students," said John Pedersen.
Stagebarn Middle School is expected to be open for the next school year.
