PIERRE, S.D. (SDBA) - Olympic gold medalist and South Dakota hero Billy Mills was honored Tuesday at the state capitol in Pierre.
Mills received House Concurrent Resolution 1010, recognizing his accomplishments, contributions and patriotism.
Mills talked about how the divisions in America today can be overcome by people and governments at every level sitting down to find solutions.
"Anytime you’re honored that involves my tribal citizenship, the state's citizenship, it's extremely special,” Mills said. “It just magnifies the importance in how progress is being made but how much further we have to go."
Mills won a gold medal for the 10,000 meter run at the 1964 Summer Games in Tokyo.
