Six people escape Rapid Valley home fire

RAPID VALLEY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Six people were able to escape a home fire on the 4700 block of Anderson Road in Rapid Valley Sunday afternoon.

The home was extensively damaged, according to a release from Pennington County Fire; and the people lost most of their personal belongings.

The wind-driven fire reportedly threatened nearby but firefighters were able to keep it from spreading.

The American Red Cross is assisting the residents.

Later in the afternoon, firefighters were again called out; this time for a home garage fire on the 23000 block of Golden Hills Drive in Rockerville.

This fire reportedly injured one person who was treated and released on the scene.

The garage was extensively damaged; with a loss of shop tools, tractor, and vehicles.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
