PIERRE, S.D. (KOTA TV) - South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs has proposed a budget reduction to her own office for the 2019 fiscal year.
The overall budget reduction amounts to $75,382, which is a 2.49 percent reduction. Krebs uses a zero-based budgeting policy, which is common in businesses. Krebs cut deeper from her initial proposed budget after hearing Governor Daugaard's budget address.
"You just got to find every, and look at every line item," said Krebs. "And that means down to each envelope, each postage, and that's what we need to do right now."
