Recycle dead Christmas light strands

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - It never fails. When you pull out those Christmas lights you find some of the strands are dead. Before chucking them in the trash, you might want to consider recycling.

Thanksgiving week, several recycling containers will be put up around Rapid City as part of its Christmas light recycling program. The goal is to reduce the amount of recyclable waste going to the landfill.

Drop off locations include the Rapid City Ace Hardware stores, Family Fare Stores, Boyd’s in Baken Park, the downtown Rapid City Library, the CSAC Building and the Education Center at the Rapid City Landfill.

The recycle bins will be in place through January. If dropping off lights is not possible, people are encouraged to place them in any blue recycling bin.
