Rapid City Council forgives loan for soccer complex

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) In Rapid City, after some spirited debate, the city council approved a measure to forgive a more than half million dollar loan from the vision fund for the new Dakota Fields Soccer Complex.

The loan allows the non–profit in charge of the fields off Elk Vale Road to install lights at the complex.

Several council members Monday changed their position, saying it was unprecedented to make such a move when it comes to the vision fund.

But others said this was exactly what that money is for; and after this, the city will have no other costs dealing with the complex.

The vote was 5–3 in favor.

Also at Monday's meeting, the council approved funding to update the siren boxes in the city.
