Police investigate threat at Box Elder school

BOX ELDER, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Box Elder police and Pennington County school resource officers investigated a threat in the Douglas School System Wednesday morning.

The Box Elder Police Department received a call from a parent who had concerns about their kid making a potential threat that was to occur today.

According to a release from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, the juvenile who made the threat has been interviewed and there is no ongoing issue and classes at the high school continued.

“We take all school threats seriously,” says Captain Corey Brubakken of the sheriff’s office. “We work hard to keep a safe learning environment for students and staff.”

While the substance of the threat has not been released, the sheriff’s office continues to investigate the matter to determine if criminal charges are appropriate.
