BOX ELDER, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office will host their community garden pumpkin giveaway the first week of October.
Kids can come and pick pumpkins small, big, or strange. They have more than 1,000 pumpkins, so there is enough for everyone.
This garden, located across from the Box Elder Police Department, is maintained by Pennington County inmates. And while it’s a fun event for the kids, it’s a way to give back for the inmates.
"It gives them a little bit of pride, and you know yea, we may be incarcerated but we are giving something back to the community because they are the ones doing all the work," said Leo Spear, one of the garden managers.
The exact date will be announced closer to the giveaway. Check back for details.
