Parents voice their concerns about sex offenders living next to bus stops

BOX ELDER, S.D. ( KOTA TV) It's a common problem in across the country; sex offenders living next to bus stops.

Parents in the Douglas School District are worried about their children's safety after discovering sex offenders live right across from a bus stop on Saturn Road in Rapid Valley. In response, the district changed the bus route starting September 6th. The new bus stop is still near a sex offender’s home.

Superintendent Alan Kerr says it’s almost impossible to find a spot where there isn't a sex offender's home.

Kerr says keeping children safe on their way to and from school is the number one priority.

"I think what we want parents to be aware of is have that stranger danger talk with your kids and make them aware of people in your neighborhood," said Superintendent Alan Kerr.
