No changes made to mountain lion season

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KOTA TV) - No changes have been made to policies for the 2017-18 mountain lion hunting season, according to the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission.

The Black Hills Fire Protection District’s mountain lion season will be from Dec. 26-March 31. A harvest limit of 60 mountain lions or 40 female lions has been established. Mountain lions from Custer State Park are included in the harvest limit.

A year-round mountain lion season with no harvest limit will be in effect for areas outside of the Black Hills Fire Protection District.
Areas not include in the Black Hills Fire Protection District have a year-round season where there is no harvest limit.

The Commission has a schedule in place for revising South Dakota’s mountain lion management plan. The public will have a chance voice their opinion over the next two years.
