RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) -- There's a new leader of the FBI in KOTA Territory. Jill Sanborn took the reins of the Minneapolis Division of the agency three weeks ago.

New Special Agent in Charge of the regional FBI Division Jill Sanborn.

The division oversees South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota.

Sanborn started her FBI career as a special agent in 1998. Her last posting was as a section chief for the Counterterrorism Division in Washington, D.C., supervising international counterterrorism investigations.

She was in Rapid City Tuesday and said she knows that one of her front burner tasks in South Dakota is trying to keep staffing levels up.

"That's a challenge that we face all the time with our offices and it's just the nature of attrition," she told KOTA Territory News. "My hope is to try to work with our headquarters to keep the staffing levels as solid and continuous as possible with as little dip in that as possible."

She also said she hopes to get up to speed in Indian Country.

"I think the biggest focus for me right now is really learning about it," she said. "I know it has great impact for the community and I have agents and task force officers that have a great passion for that. And so I really want to be part of that passion and figure out what I can do to help them and help the community."

Sanborn isn't new to the region. She grew up in Dillon, Mont.
