New York Street fire under control

RAPID CITY S.D. (KOTA-TV) - A small grass fire started behind the Prairie Market on New York Street this afternoon.
Although crews don't know what started the fire, they continued to let it burn as a clean-up effort.
Rapid City Battalion Chief Shawn Barrows says the controlled burn benefits local businesses and the fire department by getting rid of the dead grasses. Barrows added, “About every year we try to clean up at least a little bit. A lot of it happens because a fire starts, then we go in and nurse it along to try and get rid of some of those fuels.”
The fire is fully controlled at this time.
