RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The Leadership Rapid City Class of 2016 hosted MudWest FunFest Saturday Sept. 9 to benefit Cornerstone Rescue Mission.

"A lot of mud, some running, challenges, can't ask for more on a Saturday morning," said a group of participants representing Hansen Physical Therapy.

21 teams came out to the event, competing in a muddy obstacle course full of rope swings, slides, and agility tests.

"Usually you are encouraged to stay cleaned but not today,” said Leadership Rapid City Class of 2016 Representative Nick Stroot. “You are going to come out, going to get muddy, and going to have a good time and know that all the dollars that you give are going to a good cause in the community.”

100 percent of the proceeds went directly to the organization, and it's events like these that keep the mission running.

"The outpouring of community support through events this summer, it's how we feed our veterans, our women and children and with the winter coming up its always a concern," said Chad Carpenter, Cornerstone Rescue Mission Board President.

In total, 400 people competed in the event. If you weren’t able to go and want to help, you can still donate to Cornerstone directly.
