Motorcyclist goes over a guard rail and falls off 80-foot drop

KEYSTONE, S.D. (KOTA TV) - A motorcyclist driving on highway 244 near Mt. Rushmore failed to negotiate a curve and went over a guardrail where there was an 80-foot drop, according to the Battle Creek public information officer.

The PIO says he has serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Lifeflight was called to the scene, but he was then transported out by ambulance to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses told law enforcement they saw the male rider hit the guardrail four times before going over.

Officials are investigating the cause of the crash.

Pennington County Sheriff's Office, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Search and Rescue and Keystone Ambulance all assisted.
