RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Build new or remodel is the question Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender is hoping the public will weigh in on, regarding what to do with the Don Barnett Arena.

During his presentation Mayor Allender addressed both options; he also allowed any public comment and gave a tour of the arena.

This was Allenders third presentation at the Civic Center and says he added more because of the high turnout.

"Demand…I will present until the demand runs out. There is a lot of people in this town…” said Allender. “If we can get 100 people in this room from now through the end of the year I'll do it every week."

Allender says the feedback from the public is remarkable, and that he has seen more citizens leaning towards one option over the other.

"The feedback coming back from these presentations has been very positive. They see after weighing the options, that the option to build a new arena seems to be the most financially responsible."

Around 35 people attended Thursday night’s meeting. Allender will give another presentation Thursday October 19 at the Civic Center, but depending on whether there will be more is up to the crowd size.
