Local Cubs fan hopes 108-year drought comes to an end

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) A hundred and eight years; a number many people have not lived, but the number of years Cubs fans have suffered since the last World Series championship.

The mood is different this year for the fans of the "lovable losers," a name they may not go by for much longer.

One local Cubs fan has high expectations for this team.

Die–hard Cubs fan Shelby Vickers went to game six of the NLCS and says it was surreal.

She believes the Cubs lineup is getting hot and will be able to close out the series at home.

The play of infielder Javier Baez has surprised her the most this post season and is excited about how well the Cubs look.

"Can this really be happening? So many years you see good teams, good ballplayers, but it's the Cubs. So you hope, but you don't get your hopes up too high. This year the hopes are high and I truly believe this could be the year," Vickers said.

Vickers and her entire family are big baseball fans and even though her husband is a Cincinnati Reds fan, she says they have been able to make the marriage work despite that.
