Hefty donation to promote girls' interest in STEM

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) South Dakota School of Mines and Technology’s Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) and Alpha Omega Epsilon (AOE) sorority donated a little more than $2,185 dollars to Girls Inc., Tuesday, April 18th, 2017.

The money will be used to fund Girls Inc.'s Operation SMART (science, math and relevant technology) class, which promotes girls' interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

"It's really exciting to be not only going into engineering myself where women are not highly represented,” said Caitlin Hone, a member of the AOE, “but also to see young girls have the opportunity to start doing science at such a young age and be able to contribute to that it's an honor for me and also an honor for our sorority."

The money was raised from a recent 3k STEMinist Star Glow Run.
