Fire breaks out at a Bell Fourche grain elevator

BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. (KOTA TV) A fire broke out at the Dakota Mill & Grain elevator in Belle Fourche today, Feb. 15th, 2017.

Firefighters responded to the scene on 5th Avenue around 11:00 am. We're told an elevator belt was over-loaded, causing it to get hot and melt. The heat then ignited some of the grain in the elevator resulting in a lot of smoke.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and are currently working on removing the melted elevator belt. Traffic was temporarily blocked on 5th Avenue from Ziebach Road all the way to State Street.

There were no injuries.
