HOT SPRINGS, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The Fall River Hot Air Balloon Festival will be held Aug. 26 and 27 in Hot Springs. Weather permitting, eight to twelve hot air balloons will launch from the Hot Springs Municipal Airport at dawn Saturday.
The Hot Springs Skydiving Club will do a jump and the Black Hills Soaring Club will offer glider rides for a fee. Food vendors will be present with breakfast and snacks. Visitors are invited to check out the local 911 helicopter, several planes and a “Walk-in Balloon”.
“We have a 77,000 cubic foot balloon that will be inflated and it will have cold air inflation fans on it and it will be tethered to the ground,” said Petra Wilson. “It’s an opportunity for people to get up close and personal with the balloon.”
In downtown Hot Springs, the Art Walk & Chalk will feature local artists. Community members and artists are invited to create sidewalk chalk art outside. Night Glow will be from 7p.m. to 10p.m. at the Southern Hills Golf Course. Inflated balloons will be tethered and look like giant lanterns.
Weather permitting, the festival will conclude with a balloon launch Sunday morning near dawn.
