Downtown Rapid City businesses have healthy holiday

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - It's been another successful holiday season for downtown Rapid City merchants.

According to Destination Rapid City CEO Dan Senftner, all signs are pointing to a very fruitful year.

He says the number of events, as well as the skating rink and the special deals businesses have been offering has helped keep a steady flow of traffic downtown.

In addition, he says the downtown gift card program that includes more than 60 businesses has continued to grow again this year with nearly $200,000 in sales.

He reminds the community that the effort to support local businesses should extend beyond the holiday season.

"We just have to remember that the shop local campaign is all year, not just a weekend, or just one day,” Senftner said. “It's got to be something we keep in our mind for sales tax revenue for our community, for the generation of our community, for stores, for positive attitudes, everything that happens, from mom to dad to grandma and grandpa and kids, it's all of that energy that makes it go".
