District 35 Senate candidates make their case

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - The South Dakota Primary is coming soon on June 5 with plenty of state legislative races on the ballot.

Ryan Smith and Lynne DiSanto are vying for the Republican Senate nomination in District 35.

Lynne DiSanto served in the state house for the last four years and is looking to serve in the Senate this time.

Ryan Smith is an insurance agent and plans to use his business knowledge to efficiently run for office.

Each candidate says they have unique qualities that they would bring to the State Senate.

Ryan Smith says, "I'm looking to bring honor, professionalism, and dignity back into Pierre when it comes to our district. We need to have an individual in that position that is able to sit back for a moment and make the common sense decisions. Ultimately not just align with the party, but what's the best for everybody."

Lynne DiSanto says, "I am a person that works hard. I work for the people. I do not work for the governor. I do not work for the establishment. I've often been labeled an outsider in Pierre. I'm happy to be that because I am there for the people. My phone is always open for people to call. I meet with people for coffee to handle their issues."

The winner of the primary will face Democrat Barry Muxen in the general election in November.
