Box Elder church and police prepare to host safety seminar

BOX ELDER,S.D. (KOTA TV) - It seems nowhere is immune from a mass shooting: whether it's a movie theatre, a country concert, or even a small Baptist church.

But even before the most recent tragedy, a Box Elder church was working with the local police department to make sure it doesn't happen here.

Ernest Nelson, a pastor at Outreach Community Church in Box Elder, along with the Box Elder Police Department, partnered with a worship security company to present a church safety seminar.

The seminar will teach safety tips, exit plans, and how to evaluate your own facility.

The learning event is not only for the outreach community church, but for everyone.

"Everything we do, we try to open to the community to say 'hey we want to help everyone,'" said Nelson. "And you don't have to be a member here to be able to benefit from the help...and so that's why we are saying, let all the churches in the area know and let their pastors know this is available."

The church security seminar will take place at the Outreach Community Church Dec.1 and 2.
