PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - A new body scanner arrived at The Pennington County Jail. The scanner, purchased by the jail and the state, will be used to detect contraband coming into the jail.
In addition to random searches, inmates coming into the jail will be scanned.
“We process more than 12,000 intakes annually,” said Jail Commander Rob Yantis. “We now have a better tool to prevent the trafficking of contraband into our facility.”
Officials found several contraband items including methamphetamine during a search over the weekend.
