Belle Fourche couple puts on free Christmas dinner

BELL FOURCHE, S.D. (KOTA TV) - Christmas means presents, food, but also giving back. And for the last 35 years, one couple in Belle Fourche has done just that, by making sure everyone in their community has a plate full of food on Christmas.

Janie and Kendell Stevens have been putting on a free Christmas dinner for the last 35 years. They say they usually see up to 500 people, and this year was no different.

They also delivered 47 meals on Christmas morning for those who couldn't get out of their house, or they picked them up.

Food was donated by local grocery stores and people in the community.
Stevens say she wants people to know, this dinner, is for everyone.

"We try and tell people it's not just for low income. It is for anyone who doesn't have family or can't afford to go someplace," said Janie Stevens. "We did it in a snow storm last year."

Later on, Santa came to deliver gifts to the kids, which were all donated by people in the community and the school district.
