American Legion celebrates 100 years being in South Dakota

SPEARFISH S.D. (KOTA TV) - Celebrating 100 years of the American Legion being in South Dakota. Saturday in Spearfish, members from all over the state came for the annual conference.

With more than 300 members in attendance, the American Legion conference is a platform where any member can voice their opinions and be heard. There were many speakers in attendance including representative Kristi Noem, but for members, it's more than just a conference. It's a way to see their fellow veterans who, over the years, became like family.

"You form a really close bond with these comrades. If you've ever been in battle, you know how close you get to your brothers and sisters and that's what we pretty much are," says Dennis Brenden the State Vice Commander for Districts 3-8.
