8 things you should have in your car this winter

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA TV) - For people who just have to venture out, a vehicle winter survival kit is a must.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at a minimum you need:
- Cell phone, portable charger and extra batteries (you can also use small power generators to keep that phone in operation)
- Shovel
- Windshield scraper
- Battery-powered radio with extra batteries
- Water
- Snack food
- Extra hats, coats and mittens (mittens are warmer than gloves)
- Blankets
