Rapid City is one of the "next great adventure towns" in the U.S. according to the National Geographic Adventure magazine.
One Rapid City woman feels the city is underrated.
Courtney Nordine, who is active in a variety of outdoor sports, said she is not surprised that her city made the cut, and is happy now it's recognized.
The magazine chose 50 cities across the U.S. as the best places to live and play.
The criteria for selection include location, future plans, outdoor adventure, job variety, cultural activities and green space.
"With the Black Hills, people don't realize it until they get here, and then they're ‘this place is awesome,' so I think it offers a lot more than people initially realize," Nordine said.
Rapid City is part of the "central region" designated by the magazine.
In this region Grand Marais, Minnesota and San Antonio are among the magazine's top twelve picks for the nation.
