Webmaster update: Saturday's hazy sky in the Black Hills is coming from wildfires burning in northern Saskatchewan, according to fire analysis data from the National Weather Service. The forest service report below was based on outdated data.
CUSTER, S.D. (AP) _ Smoke from California fires is spreading into the Black Hills. Acting Forest Supervisor Frank Carroll says some people are calling dispatch centers or county emergency managers under the impression there's a fire in the Black Hills. Carroll says the smoke is making it hard for fire lookout towers to spot a real fire in the Black Hills. One fire in California has burned nearly 42 square miles since it was started by lightning a week ago.
