A somber anniversary for many, as 15 years ago a plane carrying former South Dakota governor George S. Mickelson and seven others crashed in Iowa, killing everyone on board.
Governor Mickelson and members of his economic team were coming back from a meeting in Cincinnati when the plane crashed in to a barn and silo.
A propeller shearing off the plane caused the crash. Mickelson served in the state legislature for several years before he was elected governor in 1986.
Lieutenant governor Walter Dale Miller was sworn in as governor the next day.
