Prescribed burns starting in Black Hills

CUSTER, S.D. (AP) _ The Black Hills might be smoky in the coming weeks when forest managers start prescribed burns as weather and fuel conditions allow.
Firefighters set controlled fires to improve overall forest health, increase forage for wildlife and reduce the severity and intensity of wildfires by reducing fuels that feed summer
wildfires.
The first burning has been set for Wednesday through Friday near Sundance, Wyo. In a release, the Black Hills National Forest says smoke may be visible for several days and that crews would like to burn up to 100 acres.
