PIERRE, S.D. (AP) _ A woman from the southern South Dakota town
of Dallas has acknowledged embezzling nearly $292,000 from the
hospital and pharmacy in nearby Burke.
Rebecca Jo Jacobsen pleaded guilty in federal court in Pierre to
knowingly and willfully embezzling from a health care provider.
She worked at the Community Memorial Hospital and Community
Pharmacy in Burke from 2000 to 2008 and acknowledged that during
that time, she stole nearly $245,000 from the hospital and nearly
$47,000 from the pharmacy.
Prosecutors say she altered checks made out to supposed vendors
and made them payable to herself.
The charge is a felony that has a maximum penalty of 10 years in
prison, a fine and restitution.
