ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - Relief organizations in Aberdeen say they're seeing an increased need for everything from food stamps to housing.
The Department of Social Services' Tarah Jahnig says all South Dakota counties except Potter have recorded an increase in food stamp requests.
In Brown County, 897 households were on food stamps as of April 2008, drawing a monthly benefit of around $250. By last month, that number had risen by more than 100.
Brian Johnson with the Salvation Army's Aberdeen location says he's constantly stocking the agency's food pantry.
The Aberdeen School District is also seeing an uptick in students getting free public school meals.
