SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) _ South Dakota State University
researchers plan to inventory native species of bees in the Black
Hills region.
A grant of nearly $50,000 from the state Game, Fish and Parks
Department is funding the three-year study that will get under way
later this year.
SDSU entomologist Paul Johnson says biologists know that at
least 100 species of bees are in the region. He says there's a
possibility that 80 or more other species could be found there.
Johnson says knowing the species of bees that are there and
the plants they are visiting will help biologists better understand
the entire Black Hills ecosystem.
